How to Avoid Parabens in your Home

Toxic ingredients are everywhere, from the food we eat to the products we use in our daily lives. It’s important to be aware of these harmful substances and take steps to avoid them as much as possible. Unfortunately, many common household products contain toxic ingredients that can have serious side effects.

The main 9 toxins according to research to avoid are:

  • Formaldehyde
  • Chlorine Bleach
  • Ammonia
  • Abrasives
  • Phosphates
  • Phthalates
  • Parabens
  • Triclosan
  • Quaternary Disinfectants

Why to Avoid Parabens:

The one I want to focus on today is parabens. Parabens are linked with phthalates a lot because of the fact that they are hormone disrupters and tend to be found in a lot of the same things. Perfume, for example, has phthalates to help keep the scent lasting and parabens in the actual scent. They have been found in the breast tissue of many because they are linked to being cancer causing and really toxic. Parabens, like phthalates, are endocrine disrupting. This means that they alter your hormones. We know when our hormones are altered it can change our entire bodies completely.

If you know someone trying to conceive, this with phthalates would be what I would eliminate from my world. When we become far too estrogen dominant (and have too many toxins in our world) our liver has trouble excreting out the excess estrogen in our system. This directly affects our reproductive system as hormones in balance are key when trying to reproduce. Something to consider looking into for sure. Take a look at the blog specifically about Phthalates and you will see the similar dynamic with parabens in that blog as well!
